2018 MLH Samples
MWG is due to provide samples for Michigan League of Handweavers (MLH) in 2018. At the September meeting a number of people signed up to participate. Sue Walton agreed to coordinate the effort. Additional information will be provided and additional volunteers would be welcome.
If anyone has any extra left-over weaving yarns, or tools, such as
shuttles, lease sticks, etc. I would be happy to accept them as a donation on behalf
of the Soul Center, which is an art center for special needs adults.
You can get in touch with me:
or, bring them to a MWG meeting.
Membership Sale is over. But if you haven’t paid your dues – see: Membership

Library Book Sale – it was decided to sell the remaining books in our library at the May Pot Luck Meeting versus the September meeting as previously announce.
In May we lead our fourth textile tour around the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia on board the Ombak Putih. The weavers and dyers in this area really do produce some outstanding textiles and our group visit is one of the highlights of their year.
Six of the twelve cabins are already booked for next year’s tour and full details can be found on our website in case this is of interest to your members.

In Review: September Meeting
Bonnie Kay presented showed pictures and film of how Kente Cloth and West African textiles are woven. She shared numerous samples and showed how these African weavings have influenced her weavings.
Below are some pictures taken at the presentation:
MWG Explorers Group
The explorers group is a subset of members who meet to share ideas of their fiber craft. It is made up of weavers, spinners, basket weavers, knitters and surface design creators. It meets monthly in members homes. The next meeting will be October 26 12:30-2:30 at Nancy Pecks home. Your are invited to join. Please email Nancy if interested.
November 20 -January 12, 2018
Costick Exhibit – All members are invited to participate.
Set up will be Monday, November 20, 2017 and take down will be Friday, January 12, 2018. This is an opportunity to show your fiberwork in a gallery setting. If your work is for sale, please indicate sale price on the inventory sheet. Costick promotes the show and takes a 30% commission for sales.
The large Farmington Hills Craft and Vendor expo takes place Dec. 9. There should be large crowds this day and everyone coming in will be there to buy!! They walk through the Costick front lobby first and this is where we will be located. This is a wonderful opportunity to show and sell our fiber work.
Costick provides the 6’ tables, coverings, and publicity. We pay Costick 30% of our sales. Plan now to participate. Email Nancy Peck that you will participate and whether a 6’ table or 6’space is needed.
We hope you have taken up the MWG 2017 Summer Challenge. You can still complete and bring results to show the guild.
In honor of MWG’s 70th Anniversary it was suggested that we use 70 as a start. It could be 70 threads, multiples of 70 threads, 70 picks or a multiple of this. Maybe you could come up with a name draft based on seventy or seventy years.
Pantone’s 2017 color of the year, a yellow green.
