Looking Back
Instead of an October meeting, a number of members went on a special tour of the Saarinen House at Cranbrook. They are currently featuring the weavings of Loja Saarinen. We apologize for the mix up on time – but the tour guide did try her best to show those who came later what had been missed. It was very interesting to see the mixture of styles of the weavings at that time.

Speaker: Susan Lolli, “Straight Draw – Or – I Hate Threading!”
The straight draw is a threading using a simple cycle through the shafts in one direction. It allows for easy threading but an interesting array of fabrics can be woven. She has found that she gravitates to this threading for new projects. The talk will emphasis the varied looks you can get with this threading.
Leader Bio information:
Susan took her first weaving class in 1974 but did not buy a loom at that time. She retook the same class in 1992, but this time purchased a loom before the class was over, and has been weaving ever since. She volunteers at the Weaving Shop at Greenfield Village where she assists in the planning of projects and gives demonstrations on the Jacquard loom. She has been actively involved in the Michigan Weaving Guild and Cross Border Weavers and is a member of Complex Weavers, Michigan League of Handweavers, and the Handweavers Guild of America. She is currently teaching weaving at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center.

Dye Day – January 18, 2020
Mark your calendars for our annual Dye Day which will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020. This is not instructor led – but the guild will provide the dyes and some of the members will assist in the mixing them. We will post the sign-up for this even in December along with a list of supplies you will need.
We will be painting warps, and skeins of cellulose yarn using fiber reactive (cold water) dyes. Cellulose fibers are cotton, rayon, linen, hemp, tencel, and bamboo. We can also dye silk with this process, although with the cellulose auxiliary chemicals we will be using, the results may be more muted on silk. So start winding your warps to paint (limit of 9 yards in length).
